AI broke my redirect. How do I find it?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: check every version of your address and every page that moved, and look for a loop, a chain or a redirect to a 404.
AI coding tools check that the code runs. They don't check what the live site serves. So a change can pass every test and still break the site, and the AI reports the job as done.
How to check it yourself
- Open your site as http and https, with and without www. All four should end at the same address.
- Open the pages the AI changed. Note where each one ends up.
- Look for a loop (the browser says too many redirects) or a chain of several hops.
- Check your redirect rules for the newest change, then undo it on a copy and test again.
What Preventionlabs shows
Preventionlabs checks HTTPS and redirects on every version of your address, whether your site settles on one clean address, and which of up to 50 sitemap pages redirect or fail. It also checks up to 80 links across those pages. Each report lists problems first, with the evidence and what to do, and shows what changed since the last report.
Give your AI agent the Preventionlabs MCP server and it runs the same check itself after it deploys.
