SiteGround error

Updated 11 October 2026

Short answer

SiteGround's own troubleshooting guide starts with two questions: does the site load from somewhere else, and what error does it show? If it works for others but not you, your IP may be blocked, and SiteGround can tell you why and unblock it. If everyone sees an error, the code points to the cause: 403 is file permissions or an .htaccess rule, 404 is a missing file, 500 is a server or site configuration problem, 504 is a request taking too long.

What's the problem

Your SiteGround site shows an error page or won't load, for you or for everyone.

Why it happens

  • Your IP address is blocked by the hosting's security systems, often after many failed logins.
  • File permissions or an .htaccess rule (403).
  • A missing file or page (404).
  • Configuration or code errors, often a WordPress plugin or .htaccess (500).
  • Slow requests that run too long (504).
  • Recent changes to the site or its settings.

How to fix it

  1. Check from another network (mobile data) or ask someone elsewhere. If it works for them, contact SiteGround about an IP block.
  2. Note the error code and follow the matching guide: 403, 404, 500, 504.
  3. Think about recent changes: an update, a new plugin, an edited .htaccess.
  4. On WordPress, see WordPress error.
  5. Contact SiteGround support with the error and when it started.

What Preventionlabs checks

One click runs the full report on your domain. For this problem it shows whether your site loads, how fast, and where its redirects go; uptime checked every 5 minutes, with an email when the site goes down and when it is back; up to 50 pages from your sitemap, listing any that fail or are slow, plus broken links on them; your DNS: nameservers, addresses, DNSSEC, and records pointing at services that no longer exist; your domain's registration and expiry date. It has no connection to your host, so check the host's status page and logs as well.

Run your free report

Your first report is free, no card needed. Then A$50 a month, up to 10 domains. Read-only: it never changes anything.
