WooCommerce not working

Short answer

WooCommerce's own guide lists three causes for most problems: outdated software, a conflict with your theme, or a conflict with another plugin. Check WooCommerce → Status → System Status for anything highlighted in red, update what's out of date, and if the problem remains, conflict-test: switch to a default theme and disable other plugins until the problem disappears.

What's the problem

Something in your store has stopped working: product pages, the cart, checkout, emails, or the admin area. Or you see a WooCommerce error message.

Why it happens

  • Outdated software: WordPress, WooCommerce, extensions, the theme or other plugins.
  • A theme conflict, especially themes that override WooCommerce templates and haven't been updated.
  • A plugin conflict with another plugin that touches products, the cart, caching or payments.
  • Caching serving stale cart or checkout pages.
  • Server limits: PHP memory or version. See WordPress memory limit.

How to fix it

  1. Open WooCommerce → Status → System Status and fix anything shown in red, such as outdated templates or extensions.
  2. Update WordPress, WooCommerce, extensions, your theme and plugins, after taking a backup.
  3. Conflict-test, ideally on a staging copy: switch to a default theme. If that fixes it, the theme is the cause.
  4. Disable other plugins except WooCommerce, then re-enable them one at a time until the problem comes back.
  5. Exclude the cart, checkout and account pages from any page caching.
  6. Check the logs for the error behind the problem.

What Preventionlabs checks

One click runs the full report on your domain. For this problem it shows your WordPress version and plugins against the latest releases; whether your site loads, how fast, and where its redirects go; up to 50 pages from your sitemap, listing any that fail or are slow, plus broken links on them. With Cloudflare connected, it also shows which pages returned server errors (5xx) to visitors, and when; which requests the firewall blocked, by Cloudflare's own rule names. It doesn't place orders or see your payment gateway, so check WooCommerce > Status and your gateway's logs too.

Run your free report

Your first report is free, no card needed. Then A$50 a month, up to 10 domains. Read-only: it never changes anything.
