How do I get told when a client's website breaks?

Updated 2026-10-17

Short answer: you need something watching every client site for you, because the client will notice before you do otherwise. The basics are an uptime check every few minutes with an email when a site goes down, and a regular full check for the quieter problems: an expiring domain, broken email records, errors on pages that aren't the homepage.

How to check it yourself

  1. List every client site you look after, with who owns the domain and the hosting.
  2. Set up an uptime check on each one that emails you when it goes down.
  3. Once a week, check the domain expiry, HTTPS, and the contact form on each site.
  4. Keep a note of every change you make, so when something breaks you know what changed.

What Preventionlabs shows

Add each client domain, prove you look after it with one DNS TXT record or the client's Cloudflare account, and click once. Uptime is checked every 5 minutes, with an email when the site goes down and when it's back. Each report shows what changed since the last one, so a new problem stands out, and the last 14 reports per site are kept. Up to 10 domains on one account.
