How do I monitor my website without being a developer?
Updated 2026-10-16
Short answer: you don't need to understand DNS, certificates or server logs to know whether your site is healthy. You need something that checks those for you and tells you in plain words: what's wrong, why it matters, and what to do or what to ask your developer to do.
How to check it yourself
- Know who to call: write down your web developer, your host and where your domain is registered, with their login and support details.
- Get an alert when the site goes down, sent to your phone or an email you read.
- Once a month, open your own site on your phone and try the contact form.
- When something's flagged, forward it to your developer with the exact wording. A precise report gets a fix much faster than "the site's broken".
What Preventionlabs shows
Preventionlabs is built for exactly this. Add your domain, prove it's yours with one DNS record (your developer or host can add it in a minute) or by connecting Cloudflare, and click once. About 15 seconds later there's one report in plain words: problems first, each with the evidence and what to do, then what's fine. Nothing to install, and it's read-only, so it can never change or break your site. Uptime is checked every 5 minutes, with an email when the site goes down and when it's back.
Price
First report free, no card needed. Then A$50 a month, up to 10 domains.
