Is my Shopify store still showing the password page?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: a Shopify store launched without removing the password page looks fine to you while logged in, and shows customers a locked door. Two quieter failures look similar: every product out of stock, or a cart that isn't answering.
How to check it yourself
- Open your store in a private window, logged out.
- If you see "Enter store using password", turn it off in Online Store, then Preferences.
- Check that products show as available, not sold out.
- Visit
/cart.js: it should return cart data, not an error.
Why it matters
While the password page is on, customers see an "Enter store using password" screen instead of your products, so the store can't take a single order. As the logged-in owner you often skip that screen, which is why it can stay on for days without anyone noticing.
Common causes
- The store launched but the password was never removed in Online Store, then Preferences.
- The store is still on a trial or development plan, where the password page can't be turned off.
- Someone turned it back on during a theme update or maintenance and forgot it.
- A new store was cloned from a setup copy with the password still on.
What Preventionlabs shows
For Shopify stores, every report checks whether the store password page is on, whether products are in stock, and whether the cart address (/cart.js) answers.
