Is my ads.txt file set up?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: if your site shows ads, ads.txt (at /ads.txt) lists who is allowed to sell your ad space. Missing or wrong, ad buyers may refuse your inventory and earnings drop.
How to check it yourself
- Visit
/ads.txton your domain. - Check it lists every ad network you work with, using the lines they gave you.
- Add or fix it with the exact lines from each network's dashboard.
Why it matters
If your site shows ads, ads.txt lists the companies allowed to sell your ad space. Many advertisers won't buy space on a site without a valid ads.txt, and without one, others can more easily sell fake inventory that claims to be yours. If your site doesn't show ads, you don't need one.
Common causes
- The ad network's setup step was never finished.
- The file was lost when the site moved or was rebuilt.
- It lists an old account ID, or a partner that's no longer used.
- It's in the wrong place: it must be at the root,
/ads.txt.
