Does my website have an llms.txt file?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: llms.txt (at /llms.txt) is a plain-text summary of your site for AI tools: what it is, what it offers and where the key pages are. It's a newer convention, cheap to add and easy to keep accurate.
How to check it yourself
- Visit
/llms.txton your domain. - If it exists, check it's accurate: prices, features and links all current.
- If not, write a short one: what you do, for whom, and links to your main pages.
Why it matters
llms.txt is a plain-text file at /llms.txt that gives AI tools a short, clear summary of your site and its most important pages. It's a newer, informal standard, but it gives assistants an easy, accurate source to quote instead of piecing your site together from pages.
Common causes
- It's new, so most sites haven't added one yet.
- The CMS or theme doesn't create it.
- It was added once and is now out of date with the site.
- It's in the wrong place: it should be at the root of the domain.
