Why does my link preview look wrong?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: when a link is shared in a message or on social media, the preview comes from Open Graph tags in your page. Missing or wrong tags give a blank card, the wrong image or an old title.
How to check it yourself
- View your page's source and look for
og:title,og:description,og:imageandog:url. - Open the og:image address directly to check it loads.
- Make sure the title and description match the page.
- After fixing, use the platform's own preview debugger to refresh its cached copy.
Why it matters
When someone shares your page on social media or in a chat app, the preview (title, description and image) is often the only thing people see before deciding to click. A missing or wrong preview makes the share look broken or unprofessional, and can show the wrong page's details.
Common causes
- The page has no Open Graph tags, so apps guess from the page content.
- The og:image points at an image that was moved or deleted, or is too small.
- Every page shares the same default preview set by the theme.
- The app cached an old preview, so changes don't show until the cache is refreshed.
