Does my website have structured data?
Updated 2026-10-17
Short answer: structured data is markup that tells search engines what a page is about: an organisation, a product, an article, an FAQ. It's how pages qualify for richer search results, and it helps AI tools understand you.
How to check it yourself
- View your page's source and search for
application/ld+json. - Check the types it declares, such as Organization, Product or Article.
- Test the page in Google's Rich Results Test.
- Add markup through your CMS, theme or an SEO plugin.
Why it matters
Structured data is code that describes the page in a format search engines and AI tools can read directly: what the business is, what a product costs, who wrote an article. It can make a page eligible for richer search results, and it helps tools understand the page without guessing.
Common causes
- The theme or CMS doesn't add any by default.
- An SEO plugin that added it was removed.
- The code has errors, so search engines ignore it.
- It describes the wrong thing, like site-wide data repeated on every page.
