Notion site error

Updated 11 October 2026

Short answer

A Notion Site only works while the page is published, and a custom domain only works while the custom domain add-on is active and the domain's DNS is set up. If visitors get a "page not found" or a Notion login screen, the page was unpublished, moved, or its sharing changed. Notion also warns that unpublishing doesn't necessarily make a page private: if its access is set to "Anyone on the web with link", people with the link can still see it.

What's the problem

Your Notion Site shows "page not found", asks visitors to log in, works on notion.site but not your domain, or shows a page you meant to keep private.

Why it happens

  • The page was unpublished, deleted, or moved out of the published area.
  • Sharing settings changed.
  • The custom domain add-on lapsed, or the domain's DNS isn't set up.
  • A link points to an old page address.

How to fix it

  1. Open the page in Notion and check it's published as a Site.
  2. Check the page's sharing settings, both for visitors and for privacy.
  3. For a custom domain, check the add-on is active and the domain's DNS matches Notion's instructions.
  4. Update old links if pages moved.

What Preventionlabs checks

One click runs the full report on your domain. For this problem it shows whether your site loads, how fast, and where its redirects go; uptime checked every 5 minutes, with an email when the site goes down and when it is back; up to 50 pages from your sitemap, listing any that fail or are slow, plus broken links on them; your DNS: nameservers, addresses, DNSSEC, and records pointing at services that no longer exist; whether HTTPS works and http visitors are sent to it. It has no connection to your site builder, so check its status page as well.

Run your free report

Your first report is free, no card needed. Then A$50 a month, up to 10 domains. Read-only: it never changes anything.
