Is Shopify down?

Short answer

Check shopifystatus.com first: if Shopify has an incident, you can only wait, and it's usually fixed quickly. If Shopify's status is fine but your store isn't, the problem is on your side: your custom domain's DNS, a recent theme edit, or an app that injected broken code. Try your store's .myshopify.com address. If that works and your own domain doesn't, it's the domain.

What's the problem

Your store won't load, shows an error, or customers say they can't reach it. You don't know if it's Shopify or your store.

Why it happens

  • A Shopify incident, shown on Shopify's status page.
  • Your custom domain stopped pointing at Shopify: an expired domain, or DNS records changed at your registrar.
  • A theme change broke the storefront: a code edit, a new theme, or a theme update.
  • An app added code that fails, or an app's own service is down.
  • Your store is paused or closed in your Shopify account.

How to fix it

  1. Check Shopify's status page, including the detailed status for your store.
  2. Try your .myshopify.com address. If it works, check your domain and DNS. See domain not working.
  3. Check your Shopify admin for notices about billing or the store's status.
  4. If the storefront broke after a theme change, publish your previous theme or a duplicate you kept before editing.
  5. If it broke after installing an app, check the app list in Settings → Apps and contact or remove the most recent app.
  6. Contact Shopify Support if your store is down and Shopify's status shows no incident.

What Preventionlabs checks

One click runs the full report on your domain. For this problem it shows your store: whether the password page is on, products are in stock and the cart works; whether your site loads, how fast, and where its redirects go; uptime checked every 5 minutes, with an email when the site goes down and when it is back; your DNS: nameservers, addresses, DNSSEC, and records pointing at services that no longer exist. It doesn't place orders or see your Shopify admin, so check Settings and your apps there too.

Run your free report

Your first report is free, no card needed. Then A$50 a month, up to 10 domains. Read-only: it never changes anything.
