How do I get an email when my website goes down?
Updated 2026-11-01
Short answer: use an uptime check. It loads your site from the outside on a schedule and emails you when the site stops answering, so you hear about it before your customers tell you.
How to check it yourself
- By hand, you'd have to keep loading the site, from outside your own network, all day and night.
- To see if it's down right now, open it in a private window on your phone with Wi-Fi off. See Is my website down? How to check.
What Preventionlabs shows
Preventionlabs checks each verified site every 5 minutes. When the site fails 2 checks in a row, it emails you that the site is down, and it emails again when the site is back up, with how long it was down. One failed check on its own doesn't send anything, so a single blip doesn't wake you. Uptime alerts use 1 credit a day per site.
